CEJI at the LIBE Hearing on Antisemitism, Islamophobia & hate speech in Europe

On 29 June 2015 from 15.00 to 18.30 the Committee on Civil liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will hold a hearing on "Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and Hate Speech in Europe". The aim of this hearing is to listen to experts in those fields as well as to civil society organisations and different stakeholders to gain insight into the nature of the discrimination patterns and violence against Jews and Muslims in Europe.

In this context a reflection on hate speech against Jewish and Muslim communities or individuals is also necessary as hate speech contributes to hate crime and poses dangers for democratic societies. During the hearing, CEJI is expected to call on the European Parliament to pass the resolutions needed for a comprehensive robust strategy to fight antisemitism and hatred in Europe, and to require Member States to do the same. At 15h00 CET on 29 June, you can watch the video of the hearing.
