NOA European Conference: Empowering Jewish Communities in Europe

30/06/2023

On the 27th and 28th of June 2023, we organised the NOA European Conference to showcase the developments of the NOA project in its four years of existence (here you can find a selection of pictures from the event). It was a space for diverse voices to come together, share experiences, and compile innovative strategies to combat antisemitism and strengthen Jewish communities across Europe. It was also a moment to evidence the goodwill between the NOA partners organisations: CEJI, the World Jewish Congress, the European Union Jewish Students, the European Union for Progressive Judaism, the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage, and B’nai B’rith. Thanks to this collaboration NOA is a reality.

The conference brought together over 100 representatives from civil society organisations and public authorities, and we reflected on the results, lessons, measures, and experiences in addressing, preventing, and fighting antisemitism, informed by the tools developed in the NOA project to date. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions and explored various initiatives that are working on this collective effort.

Attendees also had the opportunity to attend a captivating theatre performance specifically produced for NOA and developed by the Bridge Theatre Company. This artistic piece allowed participants to connect with the subject matter on a deeper level and evoke emotions.

The conference reached its culmination with the closing remarks of Katharina von Schnurbein, the coordinator of the European Commission for the Fight against Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life. She shared the efforts and the challenges that the European Union is facing in the fight against antisemitism and fostering Jewish life.

With the NOA European Conference now behind us, it is essential to stay connected and informed about the ongoing efforts and developments. We are looking forward to continuing working together in the second phase of the project. It is clear that together we can create a more inclusive and harmonious Europe where Jewish communities can thrive and flourish.
