Capacity building against antisemitism on the ground

20/04/2023

Together with ECCAR, CEJI is working on the project “Collection of good practices and training for civil servants, social workers and partners on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life”, co-funded by the European Commission.

In the first part of the project, good examples from more than 50 European cities were collected between May 2022 and February 2023 with the help of an online survey. The evaluated data will be published by ECCAR in a scoping paper in 2023 together with the European Commission.

In the second part of the project, ECCAR and CEJI will provide a first pitch of practical capacity building in the field of antisemitism to ECCAR member cities. Seven ECCAR cities responded to the call for proposals in February 2023 and the cities of Bologna, Brussels and Nice were selected for the three pilot trainings. These cities are currently planning their respective training sessions, which will be held locally on different topics. Each training session will last 1-2 days and will invite different local authorities and stakeholders to engage with the topic. The training sessions will take place in May and June and the main results and experiences will be presented at the ECCAR Steering Committee in June in Wroclaw.

This project follows the first-ever EU strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life that was presented by the European Commission in October 2021 and is funded by the European Commission with around 60.000 euros.
