Webinar on sexist hate speech with MEP Terry Reintke

Hatred based on sex is a daily reality for women in Europe. Sexist hate speech is a form of violence against women and girls that perpetuates and exacerbates gender inequality. Is often seen as acceptable, harmless and less serious than other forms of hate speech, while in fact it is one of the most widespread and systemic forms of hate. Policy action at all level need to be developed to combat this phenomenon. Both law making, advocacy and practical experience will be shared by our guest speaker MEP Terry Reintke, member of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, who has been at the forefront of fighting sexism and sexualised violence in the European Parliament.

Webinar’s objectives

  • Understand the current manifestation and impact of sexists hate speech
  • Understand the need for legislative changes as well as cultural shift to break the wall of acceptance
  • Review the opportunities within the EP to combat sexist hate speech – what actions are possible?(e.g. increase involvement of male MEP, European Parliament petition etc..)
